Privacy

Your health, kept private.

Tend holds some of the most personal information there is. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect, how we use it, and the control you keep over it.

Tend ("Tend," "we," "us") provides a personal health-journaling app. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle your information when you use Tend on iOS or Android, over text message, or through our website. By using Tend, you agree to the practices described here.

The short version

  • We collect the health information you choose to share, plus what's needed to run your account.
  • We use it to provide Tend to you — and for nothing else.
  • We never sell your data, and we never use it to train AI models.
  • Your data is encrypted, access is restricted to your account, and you can export or permanently delete everything at any time.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details — your name, date of birth, email, and phone number, used to create and secure your account and to send your text-based check-ins.
  • Health information you log — symptoms, medications, conditions, allergies, meals, measurements (such as blood pressure or glucose), notes, and anything else you record by text, voice, or in the app.
  • Voice recordings — if you send a voice note, we store the audio temporarily to transcribe it into text, then retain it under the limits described in Data retention.
  • Support & feedback — messages you send us, which may contain health details you choose to include.

Information from connected services

  • Apple Health / Health Connect — only if you connect them, and only the data types you approve (such as sleep, heart rate, steps, and activity). You can disconnect at any time.

Information collected automatically

  • Limited technical data — basic device and diagnostic information needed to keep the app running reliably and securely. We do not use advertising trackers.

How we use your information

We use your information solely to provide and improve Tend for you:

  • To record your check-ins and organize them into a clear timeline.
  • To surface patterns and observations for you to consider and discuss with your doctor.
  • To send the reminders and check-ins you've set up.
  • To prepare visit summaries you can choose to share with a clinician.
  • To answer your questions about your own logged history.
  • To keep your account secure, prevent abuse, and meet our legal obligations.

How AI is used

Tend uses artificial intelligence to understand what you write, transcribe voice notes, and identify patterns in your own data. This processing happens to deliver features to you. Our AI providers process your information on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations and do not use it to train their models. We do not build or train any AI models on your health information.

What we never do

  • We never sell or rent your personal information.
  • We never use your health information to train AI models.
  • We never show you ads or share your data with advertisers.
  • We never disclose your information except as described below.

When we share information

We share your information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. We rely on a small set of trusted companies to operate Tend — for example, secure cloud hosting and database storage, AI processing, voice transcription, text-message delivery, and email. They may process your information only to perform services for us, under obligations to keep it confidential and protected. We work to ensure providers handling health information offer appropriate, healthcare-grade safeguards.
  • People you choose. When you generate and share a visit summary, or (in the future) grant a caretaker access, the information goes only to the recipient you select, on terms you control. You can revoke sharing at any time.
  • Legal reasons. If required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of you, us, or others.
  • Business changes. If Tend is ever involved in a merger or acquisition, we'll notify you, and any successor will be bound by this policy or a materially similar one.

How we protect your information

  • Encryption in transit and at rest.
  • Strict access controls — your records are isolated to your own account.
  • Audit logging of access to health information.
  • Data minimization — we collect only what's needed to provide the service.

No system is perfectly secure, but we take protecting your information seriously and design Tend with that responsibility in mind.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Voice recordings are retained for a limited period (currently up to 90 days) to support transcription and your records, after which the audio is removed while its transcript may remain in your timeline. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your health data, as described below. A minimal record that an account existed and was deleted — together with security and access logs — is retained as required by law and to protect against fraud; this record contains no health information.

Your rights and choices

  • Access & export — view your data in the app and request an export.
  • Correct — edit your profile and health records.
  • Delete — permanently delete your account and all health data from You → Delete account. This is irreversible.
  • Disconnect health sources — turn off Apple Health or Health Connect anytime; this stops future syncing.
  • Control messages — adjust or turn off check-ins and reminders, or reply STOP to opt out of texts.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as GDPR or CCPA. To exercise any right, email privacy@tendhealth.ai.

Children

Tend is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 (or the age of majority where you live). If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Tend evolves. If we make material changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
